About june farms

June Farms is a peaceful farm located on 120 acres of beautiful, fertile land in New York’s Upper Hudson Valley. We are often referred to as a “gentleman’s farm” because we do not profit from the sale of our animals or crops. Rather, we aim to be a safe haven for our heritage-breed animals, which are the ones that predate factory farming – the same breeds raised by our ancestors centuries ago. At June Farms, these include our Scottish Highland cows, giant Shire horses, Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs, Nigerian dwarf goats, chickens, ducks, 2 barn cats and a dog!

Our mission has remained constant since we first opened our barn doors in 2017: To serve as a joyful and fun sanctuary for all of our heritage breed farm animals and the guests who come to visit them.

We do so by offering daily farm walks year-round. Whether in or out of season, guests can come to June Farms, explore our grounds, and pay a visit to each of our pasture-raised animals. If you are interested in taking one of Our Daily Walks, please view our CALENDAR to see if we are closed for a private event before driving out.

We also specialize in hosting weddings and private events, including corporate parties, birthdays, and showers, year-round. Our passionate hospitality team curates a handful of gorgeous, rustic farm weddings each summer and fall. And we take reservations for private parties any time of year.

The other arm of our hospitality business is our cabin rentals. June Farms is home to eleven critically acclaimed cabins that can be rented on Airbnb or directly by phone year-round. Our five-star accommodations feature a modernized 1976 airstream, a luxurious lodge, and even a tipi – just to name a few.

About our founder

June Farms was founded by New York bar owner & restaurateur, Matthew Baumgartner. After spending years in hospitality, living between the Capital Region and New York City, and undertaking many entrepreneurial endeavors, Matt decided he wanted to get back to basics. So he bought some acreage in the country on which he could build a house and raise animals and crops. But he quickly realized that his friends and neighbors had an enormous interest in coming to see the land, meet all the animals, and have a few beers while they were at it.

So, in 2017, Matt and the staff opened a pop-up bar & restaurant on the farm . It was so popular that he decided to completely change course from the original plan and focus on farm visits and food & beverages service.

Since then, Matt has turned June Farms into a full-service hospitality brand and gentleman’s farm.

Why is it called june farms?

Quite possibly the most asked question we get asked!

Originally, the pop up bar & restaurant was supposed to take place in the month of June, and the pop-up was to be called “June at the Farm”  Logos were made.  However, the construction of the restaurant/bar took longer than expected, and we opened in August.

However, we quickly realized that June was our favorite month at the farm.  The animals give birth in June, the flowers are in bloom, the birds are singing.  Kids get out of school, summer begins, and our season begins!

Because June is such a happy month for us, we decided to call it June Farms.

The future of june farms

Five years after its founding, June Farms is thriving and it continues to expand. In 2022, several new cabins will become available to rent. Notably, the June Farms Hobbit House and four luxury cabins built in the shape of pig sties are our newest additions.

We’ve added a number of new private parties to the list as well. These include a bonfire party at June Farms, and two off-site parties – one of which is a boat tour on a nearby lake.

We continue to take on more elegant weddings, upping the ante with each new season. Stay tuned for updates about events at the farm by checking our blog or by following us on Instagram.

HOURs

Because of our ongoing private events, it is tricky to say when the farm is open to the public. We suggest you visit our CALENDAR to see what hours we are open on the day you’d like to visit.

Cabins are available 24/7 all year around!

If you plan on renting a cabin at the farm, we suggest not expecting the bar/restaurant to be open during your stay because of our events schedule.   When you reserve your cabin, you will receive excellent nearby restaurant and bar recommendations for you to enjoy!
